It seems safe to call Manchester United and Fulham the two most disappointing teams in the Premier League this season, albeit for different reasons.

United, last season's champions, are currently in seventh place, 15 points behind league-leading Arsenal. It's safe to say they haven't adjusted particularly well to life after Sir Alex Ferguson. Meanwhile, a Fulham squad that finished 12th on the table a year ago is currently dead last in the league this year.

Now, these two disappointing squads meet in a crucial Premier League match for each of them. Let's break it down.

The addition of Juan Mata was supposed to be the spark this United team needed to fuel a late push for a Champions League push. And it seemed to be in his debut, as the club defeated Cardiff City, 2-0. But then came last weekend, and United was stunned by Stoke City, losing 2-1.

In many ways, those two games were a microcosm of the club's season. Just when you think they're about to go on a run of form and re-emerge in the Champions League race—they trail fourth-place Liverpool by seven points—they completely botch a winnable game.

And it's why former United defender Gary Neville has tipped Liverpool to finish the season in fourth, not United, via Sky Sports:

I have to say that at the moment Liverpool are in pole position and look the strongest.
Liverpool were top of the league on Boxing Day and I think that there has been progression there this season, mainly through Luis Suarez's form who has been incredible but he is supported and aided by the rest of his team mates.
I would have said a few weeks ago that United would have got fourth place, I'm not going to change it just yet, but there has to be big improvements.
Everton had a good response to that demoralising derby defeat and Tottenham we're not quite sure about are we? The big battles for all teams are still to come and it could be any of those four, but I think it will be between United and Liverpool.

There aren't many teams in the Premier League where a seventh-place spot on the table could be considered such an epic failure, but United is one of them. Anything less than a fourth-place finish will be considered a huge disappointment.

Of course, Mata should help. The Spaniard provides the creativity and vision that United have often desperately lacked this season, and his ability to unlock opposing defenses with his crisp and incisive passing is a huge addition for the club.

It's one reason why Ryan Giggs feels he can become a legend at the club, via Richard Jolly of ESPN:

Player-coach Giggs, who has made 959 appearances for United—his only club—and is the most decorated player in their history, is firmly established in the pantheon of United legends.
He believes Mata has the ability to join those ranks, telling MUTV: "I think he could. He's obviously got the talent.
"I don't want to put too much pressure on him, but I don't see why not. I think that coming here will help him with regards to playing for Spain as well, if he is playing week in and week out [for United].
“Spain have got a great side, so if we have a regular Spanish player within Manchester United, it will be great because they are such a good team at the moment.”

If he can help salvage United's season, he may become a legend at the club sooner than later.

And then there is Fulham, a club that have won just once in their last eight matches across all competitions (with two draws). Even after a busy transfer window that saw them bring in Konstantinos Mitroglou, Lewis Holtby, John Heitinga and Clint Dempsey, the Cottagers continue to struggle.

Fulham have taken just nine of a possible 36 points on the road this season, so it's hard to fancy them at Old Trafford. Then again, Manchester United have as many points at home this year (20) as they have on the road, so it's not as though their famous stadium has been the impenetrable fortress it often was under Ferguson.

Fulham have been miserable enough this season that it's hard to project them pulling an upset, but it would hardly be shocking if this game was close. On paper, United should win with ease, but they've often been far less impressive on the actual field this year.

Still, Fulham's recent form is hard to ignore, and United should continue to improve with Mata, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney forming a dynamic trio. Expect the defending champions to earn all three points, winning 2-0.

Benfica vs. Sporting Lisbon: Date, Time, TV Info and Preview

The clash of the top-two takes place on Sunday, as Benfica host Sporting Lisbon in a match which could make or break either side's respective title ambitions.
Unbeaten at home so far this season, Benfica will be looking to avenge their 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Gil Vicente last weekend.

Lima's penalty gave Jorge Jesus' men the lead at Estadio Cidade de Barcelos, however, the side let their lead slip and, ultimately, dropped two points after Vitor Goncalves netted just ten minutes later.

That was certainly not the first time that Benfiquistas have dropped points this season, however, the side still sit two points clear of Sporting Lisbon at the top of the Primeira Liga table, largely thanks to Lima and Rodrigo, who have scored eight and seven goals respectively.

Sporting have plenty of striking options themselves, but no-one more productive than Fredy Montero, who has bagged himself 13 goals so far this season—one third of Sporting's total goals.

However, Montero and his side could do nothing to prevent a 0-0 draw at Academica last weekend, in a result that effectively cost Sporting the chance to take the lead in the title race.

With just 13 games remaining this season, it's a critical situation as both sides look to etch their name into the history books and prevent Porto from successive title victories.

Last time these two met was back on Aug. 31, when both sides shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw—Montero and Lazar Markovic grabbing the headlines on that occasion.

As the league hots up, both clubs remained reasonably unscathed from the battering of the January transfer window.

Nemanja Matic remained Benfica's only high-profile exit, returning to Chelsea for a lucrative £21 million fee income that would allow his former employers to consider their options in the summer.

Moves to keep the pair have helped the side's chances of regaining the title but is it only a matter of time before Portuguese football's big-hitters move to another country, and thus, weaken their side's chances of future success?

This, coupled with the lack of Champions League qualification for either club, should results deteriorate, could help prompt exits away from Portugal and at a reduced price, should the players opt to force their way out in search of European football.

Of course, for now, both clubs will be looking to their stars to help gather this year's bounty of silverware and bragging rights from their divisional rivals.

But no doubt, eyes will be cast upon on the exit door as this season pans out, with Benfica's Oscar Cardozo already publicly stating that he'd like to leave the club this summer, per A Bola (h/t to Ben Jefferson of the Daily Express).

France vs. Italy: Date, Time and TV Info for Six Nations 2014

France will be looking to carry on the momentum from their last-gasp victory over England, when they meet Italy on Sunday.
The hosts had looked like they were heading for defeat in the opening game of the RBS Six Nations, however, a moment of brilliance from teenage centre Gael Fickou rewrote the script and capped his side's 26-24 victory just three minutes from time.

This signaled France's first win in the competition and showed intent from their young guns that winning is firmly on their minds.

No such good fortune for Italy, though, who lost 23-15 to a tough Welsh side and the ever-influential Leigh Halfpenny, who scored two conversions and three penalties to lead his side to victory in their first-round fixture.

Wales, who are in pursuit of their third Six Nations title in a row, showed no mercy to Jacques Brunel's youngsters, who are now rooted joint-bottom of the table following defeat.

Odds certainly favour the hosts, who will go out looking to take top spot, with Yoann Maestri set to continue his good form.

Italy coach Brunel looks set to stand by his youngsters as his side look to make their mark on this year's competition.

The side, who lost their opening match, were handed a life lesson as they were downed by a resilient Welsh outfit.

And Brunel, who spoke with the RBS6Nations website, knows that he is asking plenty of his young guns—but knows that they can rise to the occasion:

I expect our young players to play at a higher level than they have done before. Just as I trust them by giving them a role in the starting XV, they have to reward my trust with solid performances. We gave an interesting performance against Wales and there's no reason why we cannot take another step forward against France.

I'm hoping we can look to last year's win in Rome for inspiration and that we can play to our full potential. If we play as I know we can, we have every chance of beating France. We hope that on Sunday we can remain in the game as long as possible but we will need to play a perfect game.

Credit where it is due to Brunel, as he sticks to his guns and allows the future of Italian rugby to rear its head in fierce competition.

Certainly, it's unexpected that the side will come out of this year's competition with any title chance, however, the real story going forward for the side will be who will continue to gel and regroup; win together and lose together, both during and after this tournament.

Lazio vs. Roma: Date, Time, TV Info for Derby of the Capital 2014

Roma take on Lazio knowing that they have to win, or lose serious ground on league leaders Juventus.

The side sit nine points adrift of top spot with a game in hand to play against Parma after the postponement last weekend, and will be buoyed after their Coppa Italia win at home to Napoli in midweek.

However, Rudi Garcia's men will be travelling to Lazio knowing that only a win will do, and aware that Lazio's form has seen them unbeaten in their last four fixtures.

Garcia will turn to former Arsenal striker Gervinho to continue his excellent form since leaving the Emirates, having scored three goals in his last two Serie A matches, which has helped his side win their last four league matches.

Lazio, who are languishing in mid-table, will be desperate to get one over on their capital rivals, too, to keep their feet firmly on the gas for Europa League qualifications—currently sitting four points adrift of fifth place.

Midfielder Antonio Candreva has been ever-present in his side's last four league meetings, scoring three goals to keep his side in the hunt for European football next season.

And the creative player, who has scored seven goals so far this season, will be hoping to fire the goals that avenge his side's 2-0 defeat by Roma on 22 September; goals from Federico Balzaretti and a penalty dispatched by Adam Ljajic in that one.

As Roma look to earn their first Serie A title win in 13 years, eight-goal hero Gervinho looks like La Maggica's best chance of leapfrogging league leaders Juventus.

Three goals in his last two games have seen the former Arsenal striker firmly cement his place in Rudi Garcia's starting line-up, and he has majestically returned to form since leaving the Emirates.

The striker needs just four more goals to equal his total tally during his two years in North London, fine form that was last seen by the Ivory Coast striker back when he was playing for French outfit Lille in 2009.

And despite the ridicule, torment and lack of chance given to the striker during his stint in England, tables have turned for the 26-year-old, who was bombed out of the Gunners' squad by boss Arsene Wenger.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, via ESPN Staff, Gervinho told of how his change in fortunes is largely thanks to the coaching that he has received at Stadio Olimpico:

The fundamental difference between the Roma and Arsenal is the coach. Garcia here gives me confidence, I know that he believes in me. When I wake up in the morning, I really like going to work: I cannot wait to train and stay with my coach and my team-mates.

In Italy the people are great. Rome is wonderful and the passion for football is strong, but a lot of these qualities were also in England. What I learned at Arsenal? Honestly, not so much, because you cannot learn a lot if you're on the bench. I left England because I was not playing. Almost always be among the reserves was the worst thing for me and for my confidence.

And it seems that the Roma boss is equally happy to comment on his man's rise to form:
Juventus, who have won the league for the last two years, will be looking eagerly over their shoulder at Gervinho and Co., and, knowing that Roma have a game in hand, will be hoping that Gervinho's fine form dries up soon.

Top Storyline: Can Verratti make it to the top?

Arriving in Paris at the tender age of just 19, Marco Verratti already had four years in Italy's second tier with Pescara that had primed the midfielder for life in the fast lane.

And since joining PSG on a five-year contract in 2012, the 21-year-old has won plenty of admirers at Parc de Princes.

Striker and team-mate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has hailed the youngster's ability to turn a match on its head and, at such a young age, lauded his pairing with fellow midfielder Thiago Motta.

Speaking with Ligue1.com, Ibrahimovic paid tribute to French football's raw talent:

When you have a Verratti in your team, it gives everyone confidence for the way we're playing and especially the way they are playing, him and Thiago Motta. I have never seen a connection like this between two players in the midfield.

And that same vision has been portrayed by Motta, who paid tribute to the way that Verratti plays the beautiful game:

I didn't know too much about him when he joined, but right from the first training session, I could see he had something special. I think he can become one of the best in the world.

I don't think anyone should try and change him. His innocence is a quality as well. If we change his playing style, he won't be as good. You have to let him mature, he's learning all the time and he'll get wiser. The way he plays, he's the ideal modern-day central midfielder and will become one of the best in the world.

Top Storyline: Can Barcelona score a key road win amid a busy schedule?
If Barca are going to stand atop the La Liga table when the dust settles at season's end, road matches against clubs like Sevilla are key. They must find a way to beat those mid-table foes or risk losing ground in the race with the top Madrid sides.

What makes things even more complicated is the Blaugrana's loaded slate. Since they are still competing in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, there are very few chances for the club to catch its collective breath and hit the reset button when necessary.

The result has been a Barcelona squad that hasn't been as efficient as normal. The club's official site passed along comments from Martino after the Sociedad match, and the manager admitted there was a lack of usual dominance:

In the match against Valencia, in the first half, we played well but we didn't finish off well. Today we didn't dominate to the point that would allow us to think we could have killed off the tie.

Normally in times like this, Barca would look to Lionel Messi to re-energize the squad. But even the dynamic Argentine forward is going through a bit of a lull. He's scored just once over his past five appearances, which was a penalty shot.

From Sevilla's perspective, they must capitalize on Barca's recent play. That means setting up a strong defensive line early in an attempt to further frustrate the normally explosive Barcelona attack, and then creating their own chances on the country.

The best thing the Blaugrana can do it get back to the basics. Quick passes, plenty of movement and a lot of touches in the final third for Messi remain the keys to success. If they can get back to completely controlling pace and possession, things should fall their way.

Prediction
It will be very interesting to see how this match plays out. Barcelona is starting to feel some added pressure with the close title race and a couple subpar showings by their standards. In the past, these are the moments where they would elevate their form.

These two sides played an entertaining match back in September. Sevilla scored two late goals to equalize before Alexis Sanchez connected in extra time to earn all three points for Barca. Don't expect as many fireworks this time around, but the result should be the same.

Manchester City's run of dominance in the Premier League was finally brought to a close against Chelsea in a 1-0 loss.Now the Citizens take to the road against a Norwich City team that probably won't be all too pleased to bear the brunt of City's frustrations after such a huge loss to the Blues.
Luckily for Norwich, City haven't been particularly good on the road (at least by their lofty standards). While they've taken 33 of 36 points at the Etihad Stadium, they've managed a more modest 20 points out of a possible 36 on the road.
Of course, Norwich haven't exactly been unbeatable at home, with exactly four wins, four draws and, you guessed it, four losses at Carrow Road. Can they pull off a huge upset against a Citizens team still stinging from a Chelsea loss? Or will City flex their considerable muscles and steamroll the Canaries?

Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka, 2nd Test: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Bangladesh took a hammering in the first Test against Sri Lanka, losing by an innings and 248 runs. They have a chance to make amends in the second Test starting in Chittagong on Tuesday but will go in as heavy underdogs.

Weather: Accuweather forecasts clear skies and temperatures up to 30 degrees celsius for most of the Test. As it stands, there will be no rain to worry about. 

 

Overview

There weren't many positives for Bangladesh from the first Test. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim fought valiantly in the first innings, but overall the hosts looked hapless and hopeless.

Shaminda Eranga and Suranga Lakmal led the Sri Lankan attack brilliantly in the first innings, taking seven wickets between them. Lakmal's ability to extract extra pace and bounce from any surface helped set the tone for how the game played out.

Bangladesh were weak against the new ball, and were it not for the late charge from the lower order, things might have been more embarrassing still.

Sri Lanka's batting was similarly ruthless with Bangladesh's bowlers largely toothless. It's hard to see anything changing drastically as the teams move to the second Test. It's hardly Bangladesh's fault; they play so little Test cricket that their cohesion as a unit has clearly been impaired.

They are out of practice and out of their depth against the experience Sri Lanka, who came into the series off the back of three Tests in January, brings to the fore.

There are two injury issues for Sri Lanka to overcome, though, with Rangana Herath and Eranga withdrawn after suffering with a knee injury and a thigh strain, respectively, per Sri Lanka Cricket, but even with a reshuffled bowling attack, the tourists, perhaps featuring replacements Kusal Janith Perera and Thisara Perera, are unlikely to be troubled.

A win to square the series is nigh-on impossible for the hosts, so they will have to shift their attention so smaller targets. The first target is to post a score of over 300 in their first innings. Setting small pockets of targets might not help Bangladesh win the Test, but it will help them grow a little bit in confidence before heading into the limited-overs matches.
